This is my process for turning a standard 12' aluminum boat into the ultimate bass fishing and fly fishing tiny boat. Here I'll walk you step-by-step through how I approached my build and show you what worked and what I would change if you're planning a build of your own. Thanks for liking and subscribing to follow along with this build and to see the boat in action in the future in my other vi...
How to make a Rainbow Trout Wake Bait
Переглядів 7753 місяці тому
This is how I made a trout wake bait, step-by-step. Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass absolutely live a realistic wake bait and there is nothing cooler than watching a big fish attack your handmade lure. This bait took two days (about 5 hours total) to complete, with 1.5hrs being the airbrushed paint and clear coat. Thank you so much for liking, sharing and subscribing! It means and ton and i...
Making a Bionic Harbor Seal

It's not every day that you get to build a one-of-a-kind functional sculpture that will be used to help save baby seals...My friends at the non-profit SR3 Marine Wildlife Rehabilitation Center asked if I would help them bring this piece to life and it turned out awesome! Each season, SR3 staff trains new vet techs and volunteers on how to handle a fresh batch of new seal pups pups that are aban...
Bedside Table Build

Wife: "Can you make us some simple bedside tables?" Me: "Sure should take jus an evening or two." [Also me: Creates a custom French cleat, wall-mounted, fully veneered, soft-close, book shelf with sunrise veneer-topped design...] Needless to say, this took longer than two evenings, but the result is well worth it. I got a chance to try out some new techniques, such as the sunrise walnut pattern...
The One Fly You've Got to Try
Переглядів 3306 місяців тому
When it comes to the ultimate searching fly for new waters, it's hard to beat the booby fly. It's easy to tie, easy to fish, and it produces. In this quick rundown, I cover fishing the booby fly from an anchored position and trolling. I plan to expand my booby arsenal to target warm water species like bass this spring. #flyfishing #boobyfly #trout
One Crappie Lure Build
Переглядів 4287 місяців тому
This may be the crappiest lure you'll see all day...well, actually I hope it's one of the better ones. We've had a crazy warm snap this January and it's got me longing for some time on the water, so naturally I'd whittle out a glidebait in preparation for my spring bass binge. Crappie are a main forage species in my favorite local bass lake, so it's the perfect choice for a smaller 5.75" glide....

This net pissed me off. With most builds you'll have a small thing happen with the build here or there, but seldom do potentially project-ending issues pop up and challenge the process like this. In the end, it all came out beautiful, but dang was it a journey. Thanks for watching and subscribing! Catch you on the next one! #flyfishing #woodworking #fishingnet
Making a Koa Wood Creek Net
Переглядів 1 тис.8 місяців тому
This is a step by step how-to of how I made a handcrafted fly fishing net from beautiful koa wood. Koa wood is a very hard to find material, so when I come across some I snatch it up and horde it until it calls to me. I love building smaller creek style nets because they're perfect for backpacking or quick trips to the local stream. If you have been considering making your own net, I highly rec...
Making a Harbor Seal for a Great Cause

you're so talented, Jameson!
The boat turned out absolutely amazing!
Thank you Total Boat! Gotta say, your products are a staple in getting it done right (or at least feeling as though I got a handle on things 😅). That Thixo 2-part epoxy is one of my new favorite things! I’ll be putting that to use a lot more on an upcoming pram wooden boat build series this October for sure.
What’s that slot cutter bit for the outside of the net? Can’t find one anywhere.
That is a bit from the business “Nets that Honor the Fish”. If you Google that and add in: router bit you should pop up exactly what you’re looking for.
Exactly what I was looking for, do you have these for sale? I will purchase and put em to work on these north Florida bass!
Awesome job dude! That's a rad lil boat!
Thanks! It turned out just how I’d hoped!
Love it! Let’s hit the lake soon!
Yes! It’s go-time for giant largemouth as they’re stocking up on food for the winter months. Now is the time for sure!
That boat build turned out super fishy!
So looking forward to getting out more this fall. It’s been a great setup thus far.
Thank you for your tutorials. They are great to watch.
Thanks and you’re very welcome!
Great looking net
Call it “The Wiggler!”
Awesome 💯💯💯
Man I love it! Funny thing is my neighbor just posted his 16’ v bottom for sale. This does not help my decision 😂😂😂.
This looks so wonderful, I am super impressed by how seal-like it came out! in case you do it again, for attaching fur or any fabric onto surfaces, consider spray adhesive such as Super 77. It is flexible but not lumpy like hot glue (and won't burn you lol).
You could make these into big bass swim baits and sell them for like 2K
Great build . Do yourself a favour and if you own an air tool pump , get an air riveter.. best gift to myself ever . Saved so many sore wrists and scratched fingers
Oh man, I 100% know now why everyone I see out there has a Milwaukee cordless riveter. I think I’ve done well over 500 rivets in this project and got a heckva forearm workout. It’s a ton of fun though!
You are well on your way to a great fly fishing boat. Tiny boat Nation is a great resource for Ideas. I'm sure that you find the smoker to be a big improvement over your canoe for Cutthroat fishing.
I’m really looking forward to fly fishing from this thing this fall for some sea run cutthroat! Going to be a serious upgrade for me.
Looks like it will float!! Hahaha! I can see that it will definitely catch more fish with this modification!! I look forward to part 2! I think you will have to carve your boat when you are done!! Thanks for sharing with us!! You will have to bring it to the east side we can take it out to Deer or Loon Lake and catch some mac's,. Our over to Newman Lake and catch some Muskie!
The fishability of this thing is sooo much better and I was actually just over east (well, center state) with it sweating it out on the Columbia chasing carp with my fly rod. I actually have set the goal of catching a tiger musky with my fly rod for my catch-2-carve series, so they’re totally on the short list of species to find! Thanks for watching!
@RiverbendWoodworks Newman Lake is a great Muskie Lake. I have not tried with my flyrod to catch one because I always run a steel leader to stop bite off. I'd be up for the challenge though! I will have to figure out a way to incorporate it.
Was that a marine varnish type finish you put on it cause it looks really nice. Good job on your part. Love it.
I use a product called Ship n’Shore from Daly’s. It’s pretty easy to get ahold of online and a little bit goes a long ways. I use it on all kinds of projects that need a good harder base prior to finish. Basically, once a project is sanded, I apply it and re-sand lightly and you’re ready for any kind of finish.
Very interesting
Very interesting.
You’re an artist sir…..wow. God has blessed you indeed
Do vintage fishing nets have any value?
You know, I don’t actually know if they do. Value is what you hold for something in most cases, so to me anything handcrafted with care holds a great value.
@@RiverbendWoodworks thank you.
Well- it works, my new favorite lure. It’s so much fun to fish with. Almost had a heart attack though. One took me into the weeds-was able to get loose using the boat hook. Thanks again! Can’t figure out how to add photos.
Just bought one because of this video! It’s on sale now for $99. Thank you!
Can i buy a form from you?
Unfortunately, I don’t at this time. If I had the means to accurately reproduce them (like having a CNC), I would jump into making a few. That may be something I embark on in the future, however.
Ok thank you
Would of love to see Bill’s face when you presented to him..Thank you for sharing and giving
Absolutely stunning I would love to own one of these. Great Work 👍
Wish u would have shown the swimming action ! You sir are a master of the craft for sure.. 10/10!
Any tips for me. I’m trying to make a fishing lure but it isn’t coming out how I want it to.
Why are all landing nets laminated? can you not make a landing net from a solid piece of wood.
I have also wondered this very thing! It’s been on my hit list to do a video attempting a full hoop bend and will plan on giving it a shot in the future.
@@RiverbendWoodworks I guess what I’m asking is why can’t you just cut the net frame out of one solid piece of wood. Would it be to brittle as one solid piece without bending any kind of wood? The reason I’m asking is because I want to build a net but don’t have all the tools to do laminating and bending. I was just curious if there was a reason for all of that. I have some nice oak and I want to build one, but I don’t want to waste it if its not going to be strong enough.
@@Sarge43 in that case it comes down to two factors: wood wastage and weakened grain structure. The cost of a 3/4" x X" wide oak board would be very, very expensive, and the cross grain sections would be considerably weaker than the rest of the net. Would it hold up? Most likely, but if any water was introduced to the end grain it would quickly destroy it. I'm considering ripping a 3/4" x 5/8" strip of solid oak and doing a bend with that to see if it can handle the bend radius (not thinking it will no matter how much steam is applied) but seems fun to try!
Wow Jameson! It’s gorgeous. You are really talented. I’ll keep you posted on how it does. Thank You so much!!
So glad you like it! I think it'll be great lure for you and bet if you crank it down under the surface it'll be amazing. If you slowly crawl it on the surface the fish will go nuts as well. Good luck out there and share pics!
What do you use for string to tie on the net? I’ve been searching everywhere for an answer.
I use a few different things including heavy duty braided fishing line (a great choice and you'll have a ton on a spool), or heavy waxed line for leatherwork (available at craft stores in smaller 50' spools), or you can use woven decoy line for duck decoys. I also have been using a lot of Fish Pond brand net baskets lately which are awesome because they include a length of tie-in line and large threading needle.
do you sell these? I don't have the machinery to do the required milling. I want to find a supplier for these that way I can offer them to my clients.
Really inspiring Jameson! Never really gave lure building much thought till i watch this! Thank you!
Thanks for watching and I really do hope you give it a shot. The feeling of catching a fish on your own handcarved piece is hard to describe and so worth the effort.
How she swim?!
It wakes beautifully on a slow retrieve but honestly I think it works best as a shallow crank-down. Dives to about 1’ on a medium retrieve. Lots of knocking sound from the wood, too 👌 hoping the epoxy coat holds up with how much knocking there is…
Привет. Давно не был на канале.
Welcome back! Been a bit slow on the video uploads here with life being very busy, but have some cool stuff lined up!
Amazing
Although I enjoy instructional explanation of the build process, I know enough about it to follow. This is exactly what I look for on UA-cam every day! I enjoy making and watching lures be made. Excellent looking lure, however, this video needs a water based functional test to be complete.
Man, I hear ya. I wish I could’ve grabbed some on the water shots before this bait headed out to my friend, but stay tuned for some monster bass pictures here on my Posts and on my Instagram page, @riverbend_woodworks.
@@RiverbendWoodworks I do not have Instagram, and other views may be in the same boat. Thanks for replying.
Too beautiful. You are a great artist. Thanks for the sharing. Peace and respect from Italy. 🪚🎣✌️
Nice work. 👍🏽
Very talented, nice work. What is the finished thickness of your nets?
Absolutely loved the action on that thing!!! Great job!
It’s so much better than I even expected and it’s now with my friend catching some dandy bass in eastern Washington! Figured it would work best where there is actually rattlesnakes.
What did you use for the ‘hard coat’? Most of the big foam sculptures I’ve seen get fibreglassed and I really don’t want to start that 😅
I used Roscoe’s Foam Coat for this one, and it’s a great alternative to fiberglassing (and it doesn’t smell). The foam coat sands easy and is flame resistant, but you can’t stand on it or really abuse the carving like you can with fiberglass. I do use the Roscoe’s as a base layer as well if I am fiberglassing to avoid potentially melting the foam underneath due to the fiberglass heat reaction. I totally recommend the Roscoe’s though. Great stuff.
Looking to do my own nets soon. Can you give some info on what router bit you use to route the groove on the outside of the hoop?
Awesome! You’re going to have a blast. The router bit is from a website called: Nets that honor the fish. If you google that it’ll turn up the site and it’s in their products section. Totally worth every penny! Good luck on your net build!
Beautiful Net do you still work at Grizzly
Thank you! And no, I no longer work for Grizzly. Sure miss using all those tools from time to time though!
